Up to 13 more trials scheduled until 2026 relating to historical CSE in Rotherham
That's according to the National Crime Agency
Last updated 30th Aug 2024
We're hearing there's 'up to 13 future criminal trials' scheduled 'up until 2026' - in relation to the child sexual exploitation scandal in Rotherham between 1997-2013.
Phillip Marshall from the National Crime Agency was responsible for setting up Operation Stovewood after the publication of the Jay Report in 2014.
It remains the largest investigation into CSE & abuse in the UK - & he says all the convictions since then have been down to the courage shown by those directly affected:
"Thanks to all the victims involved in this.
"We recognise their bravery in coming forward and their resilience in supporting criminal prosecutions.
"The circumstances are incredibly harrowing.
"More individuals are scheduled to stand trial, and more people will be charged in the future."
Oliver Coppard is South Yorkshire's Mayor + Police & Crime Commissioner.
He says the force will always look to improve their handling of CSE under his watch:
"There is no complacency in South Yorkshire because we have to be clear that time and time again, many institutions failed the victims between 1997-2013, and they have now been repaired.
"However, we have to remain absolutely committed to keeping standards high when it comes to protecting some of the most vulnerable people in society."
Monday marked ten years since the publication of the Jay Report - which exposed the scale of grooming in Rotherham between 1997-2013.
