Thousands raised for one-year-old seriously injured in fatal crash
Michael Keen was involved in a serious car crash in Barnsley in December
Over £5,000 has been raised to support a one-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a crash in Barnsley.
Michael Keen had been walking along West Street in Worsbrough together with granddad Leon Yould when they were hit by a car on December 22nd.
According to grandmother Elizabeth, Michael had been in his pushchair when he was hit by the car - believed to be a Volkswagen Polo.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police were called to the scene, with emergency services arriving soon afterwards.
Leon was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, while Michael was left critically injured, and was taken to hospital shortly afterwards.
Currently, Michael has been placed in a medically-induced coma, while funds are raised to help cover the cost of his recovery.
Two separate fundraisers, set up by Michael's family have since collectively raised over £5,000 - which will go towards his adjustment back to normal life, including therapy.
In an update, grandmother Elizabeth said: "Michael is still in an induced coma and we are awaiting the decision to wake him up.
"He has had multiple operations and we have been made aware that he could have brain damage and be paralysed but we remain hopeful as we won't know anything definite until he is awake. I will update you all when we know more."
