A 5 year old boy who suffered serious injuries after being mauled by a dog in a Mexborough park has met some of the police officers who helped him, on a visit to their station.

Roman was walking with mum Joanne in a park on Schofield Street in Mexborough when the incident happened earlier this month.

He's since been treated in hospital for a series of injuries to his eye, ears and cheeks.

Officers were praised at the time for their quick response, with officers helping to comfort the family and quickly arrested at 29 year old man.

He has since been questioned on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control and bailed.

Staff at Mexborough Police Station have since opened their doors to the family in a bid to help him with his recovery.

He was treated to cake and, of course, a ride in a police car.

It comes amid an ongoing South Yorkshire Police campaign to educate owners about looking after their pets property.

In a statement, with force said: "(Roman's) injuries could have been a lot more severe and could have been avoided by responsible ownership."

"If you own a dog, do your part and be a responsible owner."
