South Yorkshire's Mayor calls for 'patience' over re-opening of DSA
It's hoped the airport will be back open by next year
The Mayor for South Yorkshire tells us he 'doesn't want to commit to any dates ' - for the re-opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
Doncaster Council previously said they want to see 'planes in the skies' again from DSA by Spring 2026.
However, Oliver Coppard says the process hasn't been straight forward:
"If we are going to fund the airport - which it looks like we're going to do - we want to do it with all the information we can get and then crack on.
"It's taking a bit longer than I know some people would like, but my commitment to tax payers in South Yorkshire is that we will always do the right thing to protect taxpayers money and give DSA the best possible future.
"Anyone that's ever - for instance - bought a house - will know that these things take a long time from when you first see the house, to when you end up with the keys.
"So, I'm not going to commit to any dates for it to re-open, but what I will say is that we will always do this as quickly as possible, but in the right way to give DSA the brightest possible future."
DSA closed in 2022 - following a short, strategic review by its owners at the time - the Peel Group.
Munich Airport International was confirmed as the airport's new operator earlier this year.
Doncaster Council signed a 125-year-lease to take over the airport site last year.
