People in Doncaster will be able to put even more items into their blue recycling bins from next month, thanks to improvements to waste collection services in the district.

Currently, only clean plastic bottles, paper or card, food and drink cans, aluminium foil and aerosols are accepted in blue bin collections.

Thanks to a service upgrade, enabled by around £6m in government funding, items including clean and dry drinks cartons and plastic pots, tubs and trays will be accepted from April 1.

Councillor Mark Houlbrook, Doncaster's Cabinet Member for Sustainability and Waste, said: “This milestone adds another layer to our ambition to increase recycling rates across the city, making it easier and more convenient for residents to recycle these much-used items.

“I am looking forward to seeing the changes come into effect from April 1st. Please don’t forget that all items must be empty and clean, to guarantee they are collected.”
