A Doncaster man dubbed a ‘lurker in the shadows’ has been jailed for life, with a minimum term of 25 years, after stabbing a man to death in an alleyway.

42 year old Sheldon Jameson was found fatally injured between Apley Road and Whitburn Road in the Hyde Park area on September 19 2024.

He died from a stab wound to the chest.

Jason Hale, 37, was quickly identified as a suspect in the case and arrested.

It later emerged that an individual matching his description had attempted to rob another man in the same alleyway just days before, ultimately stabbing him and leaving him with serious injuries.

Hale's DNA was also found on the knife used in the murder, with CCTV showing him loitering close to the alleyway on the nights in question.

He will serve life for murder, attempted robbery, and assault.

Senior Investigating Officer in the case, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward of South Yorkshire Police, said:

“Sheldon’s family and friends remain in our thoughts, and I hope today marks the end of a painful chapter in their grief, allowing them to honour his memory in their own personal ways.

“The knowledge that Hale will now serve a lengthy prison sentence is a fitting outcome for the tireless efforts of my team in securing justice for Sheldon.

“Hale was a dangerous predator, and our communities are undoubtedly safer with him behind bars.”
