A Doncaster Reform UK councillor has apologised for a social media post following a knife attack onboard a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday night (November 1, 2025), which had begun its journey in Doncaster.

On Sunday morning (November 2, 2025) Cllr Alexander Jones posted on Facebook after police had confirmed suspects in the knife attack on-board the London-bound LNER train were British nationals.

In the post, Cllr Jones – who represents Edenthorpe and Kirk Sandall – appeared to suggest the men were not English.

His post, which has since been deleted, said: “The recent stabbing incident on the train from Doncaster to London King’s Cross has understandably further raised significant concerns.”

Cllr Jones’ post incorrectly stated that “reports suggest that the individuals involved are not English”, and said the event was “prompting again discussion about the impact of mass immigration on public safety”.

His post attracted significant backlash online and was accused of “spreading misinformation” and “racial hatred” about the suspects.

In a statement to the LDRS, subsequently posted to his Facebook page, Cllr Jones said: “On Sunday morning I posted my immediate thoughts in the aftermath of Saturday night’s horrific attacks, in hindsight what I wrote was open to interpretations I did not intend and I apologise for any offence caused and I have deleted the post.”
