A police officer has been charged with assaulting a teenager at a Derbyshire care home.

Pc James Wilkinson, of Derbyshire Constabulary, is alleged to have assaulted the 17-year-old boy after he had been called to a residential care home in Chesterfield in the early hours of March 21, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.

The 49-year-old was charged with one count of actual bodily harm after the IOPC sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service on August 21.

The watchdog launched an investigation on March 28 after Derbyshire Constabulary referred two complaints relating to the police attendance.

Wilkinson is expected to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday for a first appearance.
