Chesterfield FC have boosted their options in midfield with the season long signing of Ronan Darcy from League One side Wigan Athletic.

The 24 year old first turned pro at Bolton Wanderers in 2018, before a series of loan spells at Skelmersdale United, Queen's Park and Norwegian club Sogndal.

He move to Swindon Town and then Crawley before signing for Wigan earlier this year.

Speaking to the Chesterfield FC website, Darcy said: ā€œI’m over the moon; it’s come round quite quick.

ā€œWith the way (manager Paul Cook) wants to play and things like that, it suits me. I’m excited to be here.

ā€œThe gaffer said to enjoy my football and the style he plays is something that I enjoy. Hopefully he can bring the best out of me.ā€
