Man charged after knife found in Chesterfield pub
Police acted swiftly after reports from Portland Hotel staff
A man has been charged with possession of a knife following an incident at a Chesterfield pub earlier this month.
Staff at the Portland Hotel contacted the police just before 10.30pm on Friday, 14th November to report concerns about a man carrying a blade.
Officers arrived at the pub within minutes, detained the man, and undertook a search that uncovered a lock knife alongside a substantial amount of cash.
The man was arrested and later charged with possession of a knife in public.
Inspector Josh Carter, who oversees policing in Chesterfield, praised the quick action of the Portland Hotel staff.
“I firstly want to thank staff from the Portland Hotel who acted quickly to ensure that this knife was safely taken off the streets.
“Officers arrived just minutes after the call and safely arrested the man – and he will now be put before the courts.
“The dangers of knives are all too clear – and we will do everything within our power to find those who put our communities at risk.
“This week we are also seeing increased activity across the force as part of Op Sceptre where we highlight the dangers of carrying a knife – and I would urge everyone to have conversations with their friends and family about the risks of carrying a knife."
