Chesterfield FC footballer appears in court to deny GBH charge

A Chesterfield FC footballer has appeared in court, to deny a charge of grievous bodily harm without intent following an assault in a pub.
Ryan Colclough, who is 29 and plays as a winger for the Spireites, was charged following an altercation with a man in the toilets of the Red Lion in Brimington on January 27.
The prosecution alleges Colclough knocked his victim unconscious with a single punch, after banter between both parties escalated.
In his defence, Colclough claims he was forced to defend himself as he was wearing a boot over an injury at the time and was unable to escape.
Colclough, of Settlement Drive in Clowne, pleaded not guilty to the change at Chesterfield Magistrates Court earlier today.
He was granted unconditional bail and will next appear before Derby Crown Court on December 5.
He hasn't been suspended by Chesterfield and remains available for selection.
