Arrest after man found hiding in Rotherham cannabis grow
Police discovered plants worth an estimated £100,000 at a home in Rawmarsh
A man has been arrested after police uncovered a cannabis factory in Rotherham.
Officers received reports of masked men trying to break into a property on North Street in Rawmarsh yesterday (November 12).
Upon entering the home a cannabis grow including around 100 plants was found. It's thought the drugs could have a street value of up to £100,000.
The electricity of the house was also bypassed, posing a fire risk.
A 22 year old man was arrested on suspicion of production or being concerned in production of a controlled Class B drug after being found hiding in an attic.
The grow is currently being destroyed by police.
Inspector Lesley Fretwell, of South Yorkshire Police, said:
“These cultivations significantly impact local communities. Cannabis farms are often linked to organised crime, and we will continue in our efforts to create safer neighbourhoods for the residents of Rotherham and South Yorkshire.
“We would urge the public to report any concerns to us. Look out for signs that a property is potentially being used for illegal activity.”
