Dozens of blank firing guns handed in to South Yorkshire Police during amnesty
A total of 45 weapons were handed in
A total of 45 blank firing guns have been handed in to South Yorkshire Police amid a month long amnesty.
Our local force took part in a national campaign last month targeting specific Turkish-made brands of top venting blank firers.
It's after tests found models made by Retay, Ekol, Ceonic ISSC and Blow could be easily turned into guns which could fire real ammunition, without the need for specialist tools or knowledge.
Detective Inspector Claire Moss, of South Yorkshire Police, said:
“I would like to thank everyone who has helped make South Yorkshire a safer place by handing over these blank firers.
“Over the last two years, these types of firearms make up a significant proportion of discharges and recoveries in our patch.”
