Rotherham Council has issued a warning after a case of bird flu was detected at Thrybergh Country Park.

The local authority says a case of H5N1 was discovered in a wild bird, although the risk to the public remains low.

However the council is urging visitors to the park to be cautious and to report sightings of any dead birds.

This can be done via email on Thrybergh.CountryPark@rotherham.gov.uk or by calling the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs helpline on 0345 933 5577.

Bird keepers are already on heightened alert for avian influenza with a Prevention Zone currently in place across the whole of England.
