A white van has been spotted floating in the River Taff as South Wales looks set to face more extreme weather this weekend.

It was allegedly seen near to the White Bridge, also known as the Berw Road Bridge.

The arrival of Storm Darragh is a worry for residents of the town after they were badly hit by Storm Bert just two weeks ago.

Homes were evacuated and vehicles destroyed as river water flowed into streets across the region.

In a statement, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "SWFRS received a call at approximately 15:29 to reports of a vehicle in a river in Pontypridd.

"Crews, appliances and rescue tenders from Ebbw Vale and Pontypridd are currently on scene. The incident is ongoing."

South Wales Police also confirmed that they were called to the scene just after 3pm.

They said: "White Bridge is closed. The incident is ongoing, and officers are in attendance assisting with traffic management so that emergency service colleagues can effectively deal with the incident."
