Police launch investigation after man seriously assaulted in Newport

A 35-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries

Police in South Wales have launched an appeal for information and witnesses following a serious assault in Newport.

Officers first received reports of a disturbance at Aberthaw Rise in the town at 8:20am on Sunday morning (August 25th).

The force had received reports that a man had been assaulted in the area, and called on the Welsh Ambulance Service to attend alongside them.

When responders arrived at the scene, they found a 35-year-old man who required immediate medical treatment.

The man was later taken to hospital, where he currently remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Gwent Police have now launched an investigation and said that enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack, or have any relevant dashcam or doorbell footage is being asked to contact the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 2400284784.
