Two men have been arrested by Dyfed-Powys Police after nearly 600 cannabis plants were found.
The men aged 31 and 27 have been charged with cultivating cannabis.
The police described the operation as a "sophisticated set-up with a number of large knives, electronic devices, plants and associated growing equipment".
They believe the cannabis plants had a value of more than £450,000.
In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police said:
"Two men have been arrested after approximately 580 cannabis plants were found in two addresses in Welshpool.
"Dyfed-Powys Police officers executed two separate warrants at the old Savers and County Times buildings on Broad Street on September 2nd and 3rd.
"Alban Qemalli (31) has been charged with cultivating cannabis and will appear at Wrexham Magistrates Court today (September 4).
"A second man, aged 27, has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and remains in police custody.
"Both were sophisticated set-ups with a number of large knives, electronic devices, plants and associated growing equipment recovered.
"The potential street value of the cannabis plants is more than £450,000."
Detective Sergeant Lovatt said: “This was a very successful operation, which saw excellent joint working between a number of departments within Dyfed-Powys Police.
“We are committed to making our force area hostile to those who deal illegal drugs, and our work over the two days has seen a significant amount of cannabis taken out of the supply chain."
