Hull City fan to race virtual London Marathon in fundraiser for Tigers Trust
Kalem Bennett from South Wales will race the marathon in a wheelchair
A Hull City fan is to help raise funds for the football club's trust by running the London Marathon virtually.
Kalem Bennett, a student of the University of South Wales, is to take on the 26-mile journey on Sunday (April 27th), in East Park in Hull - in his wheelchair.
Bennett is currently in the first year of his course studying Community Football Coaching and Development at the University of South Wales; however, he is also studying together with the Tigers Trust, supporting his favourite team.
Now, he is hoping to raise funds for the marathon by taking on the challenge, albeit remotely. Speaking on his hopes for the race, Kalem reflected on how the course has helped him grow.
"I feel like it is going well, the way it is been delivered, I'm learning a lot from and how to be a coach," he said.
"I wanted to challenge myself, and see what it would be like doing bigger events, I've been training for 3 months, it will be my first proper event."
He also explained his reasonings for raising funds for the Tigers Trust, showing what the Trust means to him: "Community can give so much to you, it's nice to finally give something back to the community.
"Representing them will be a big thing because they inspire you and hopefully by doing this I can give them a bit of inspiration."
Reflecting on his development through his time at the Trust, Sue Lindley - head of the Education wing of the club said that he has "really come out of his shell".
Kalem has been using both the track and a road roller treadmill in order to train for the race, and has been put on a strict protein diet to prepare for the final race.
