The First Minster of Wales has said he is 'deeply saddened' following the Princess of Wales' announcement that she is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Kate announced yesterday evening she's beginning a course of preventative chemotherapy.

Hashtags including "WeLoveYouCatherine" and "GetWellSoonCatherine" have been trending on social media.

Less than a week into his new leadership, Vaughan Gething was among a number of leaders and political figures across Wales sharing their support on X (formerly Twitter). He posted:

"I am Deeply saddened to hear the news about HRH The Princess of Wales.

"On behalf of people across Wales, I would like to send our love and support to the Princess and her family at this very difficult time.

"All of our thoughts are with you as you continue your treatment."

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies said: "Sending The Princess my best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

"My thoughts are with the whole Royal Family at what has been a very difficult time. "

He added that he hopes those who’ve been speculating will reflect on themselves.

The Archbishop of Wales, the Most Reverend Andrew John posted:

"I want to assure the Princess of Wales and the whole Royal Family of my prayers at this difficult time and pray for a speedy recovery. "
