Four people arrested after Newport police raids

Early-morning warrants were carried out at 5 properties

Police have seized suspected class A and B drugs, a large quantity of cash, and mobile phones during early-morning raids in Newport.

Neighbourhood officers arrested four people during early-morning warrants at five properties in the Newport area on Tuesday 13 May.

Gwent Police officers carried out the warrants simultaneously at addresses in Cormorant Way, Maesglas Crescent, Arnold Close and Maesglas Street.

Officers seized a quantity of suspected cocaine and cannabis, a large quantity of cash, drug paraphernalia, and mobile phones.

A 25-year-old man, from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A - cocaine.

A 24-year-old woman, from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cocaine, and concerned in the supply of a controlled drug of class B - cannabis.

A 21-year-old man, from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a class A drug, and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B - cannabis.

A 31-year-old man, from Pontypool, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a class A drug.

All four remain in police custody.

PC Jack Bevan, neighbourhood ward manager for Maesglas and Pill, said:

“Intelligence we receive from the public is paramount as we combat the production, sale and supply of illegal drugs in the Newport area.

“We hope this morning’s warrants, which involved around 40 officers, show that input from the local community really makes a difference, so please continue to report your concerns and information to us.

“Illegal drugs fill our communities with misery, suffering and fear and those involved prey upon the vulnerable in our society.
