Cardiff choir delivers life-saving message urging men to get checked for prostate cancer
Men affected by prostate cancer are joining forces in a Cardiff choir to raise money for charity and encourage others to get checked.
A group of men who had never sung together before are preparing to perform in Cardiff as part of a fundraising project for Prostate Cymru.
The Men United in Song choir was formed as a nine-week challenge, bringing together more than 30 men from different backgrounds, some of whom have personal experience of prostate cancer.
They will perform alongside South Wales Male Choir at Dora Stoutzker Hall on 31 October, in a concert aimed at raising money and awareness of the disease.
Organisers initially set out to recruit around 50 men for the scratch choir, with no previous singing experience needed. The challenge has given participants the chance to learn something new, make friends and support a cause affecting thousands of families.
Project leader Guy Edwards said the group was on course to raise more than £10,000 through sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues, with further money expected from the concert.
Mr Edwards, who lost his father to prostate cancer in 2017 after the disease went undetected, said the project also had an important message for men.
He urged anyone with concerns to speak to their GP and ask about testing.
The concert will also feature information about the disease and a talk from Prostate Cymru chairman Andy Thomas.
