Welborne design plans submitted to Fareham council
The project will contain 6,000 homes and a range of businesses
‘Welborne will be designed to the very high standard that we all want to see.’
Documents that set out the design, look and feel of Welborne Garden Village have been submitted to Fareham Borough Council.
The Welborne Strategic Design Code and the Welborne Streets Manual have been submitted by Buckland Development Ltd.
The documents, if approved, will set out the design requirements that all future development at Welbore will adhere to.
Councillor Simon Martin, executive member for planning and development, said: ‘The Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission highlighted the lost art of creating beauty in our built environment and the many new estates spoiling our treasured countryside.
‘Both the council and Buckland are determined that Welborne Garden Village will be built to the highest levels of design.
‘It is so exciting to see that the considerable work undertaken by Buckland and its development team, this council, and Hampshire County Council, has resulted in a submission with design principles that will ensure Welborne will be designed to the very high standard that we all want to see.’
In creating these documents, Buckland Development Ltd has worked with highly regarded architects Ben Pentreath, Welborne’s town architect and Kim Wilkie, the town landscape architect.
The strategic design code states that Buckland is pursuing a development approach that focuses on a ‘consistent, long-term vision’ that prioritises ‘investment and delivery’ over ‘short-term financial returns’.
Once completed Welborne will see 6,000 homes, parks, woodland, schools, playgrounds, shops, healthcare, business premises and public transport.
