Weather warning out for torrential rain across the South
The yellow alert will be in force from 2pm on Sunday 27th June until 7am on Monday
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for torrential rain, covering much of the South.
Forecasters say up to 80mm of rain could fall from Sunday afternoon, when the yellow alert kicks in.
Some areas could see as much as 25mm in the space of an hour, which could trigger localised flooding and travel disruption.
The warning covers all of Dorset and the Isle of Wight, along with southern and western parts of Hampshire.
What can we expect?
The yellow weather warning for torrential rain will be in force from 2pm on Sunday until 7am on Monday.
The Met Office says we can expect:
• Spray and flooding will lead to difficult driving conditions and perhaps some road closures
• Where flooding occurs, there may be delays or cancellations to train and bus services
• There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
• There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater
The Met Office forecast states:
“Persistent rain, heavy and possibly thundery at times, will move across southern and southwestern areas of England and parts of south Wales through Sunday afternoon, persisting into Monday morning, before easing.
“20-40 mm is likely to fall quite widely across the area but a few places could see 60-80 mm over this period, including 15-25 mm within an hour.
“Such totals may cause travel disruption and some flooding”.
