Warehouse worker spends £10,000 building Scalextric circuit
A warehouse supervisor from Bournemouth has spent £10,000 building a huge 50 metre Scalextric circuit over six years in his front room
Tony Sivyer, 53, finished the landscaping during lockdown at his bungalow in Ensbury Park.
The circuit features 37 bends, a "Monaco grand prix" tunnel and a replica of the Dunlop Bridge at Donington Park.
The layout is inspired by Tony's love of motorcycle racing and the Isle of Man TT course.
It features safety barriers, advertising hoardings and floodlights.
He even has a 1:32 scale plastic model of himself on the side of the course.
Mr Sivyer, who watched YouTube videos to make it, told Wave 105: "My girlfriend Elaine is very understanding of my passion.
Twenty-odd years ago she bought me a Moto GP set which I played with a few times on the lounge floor and it's grown from there.
"I guess I can always blame her for buying my the first set! I do have a t-shirt which says I love it when my girlfriend lets me play Scalextric.
"The latest layout probably took me about three years and during lockdown I finished the landscaping.
"I wanted to get it right so the cars run around properly.
"When furlough came along it gave me 12 weeks to get on with the landscaping".
"I’m not good at engineering so it’s been a challenge."
