The long-awaited £40m Stubbington bypass is set to open on 31 May.

The road, which will run from Gosport Road to Titchfield Road, with a new junction on the A27, has been under construction since January 2020.

The bypass has been built to improve journey times between Fareham and Gosport.

Cllr Sean Woodward, leader of Fareham Borough Council, said he had first proposed the bypass in 2013.

Writing on his Facebook page, Cllr Woodward said: "I was delighted to take a drive of the entire length of this 50mph, 3.5km road.

"It should take at least half of the daily 25,000 vehicles out of Stubbington village as well as improving journey times.

The Stubbington bypass has been named Daedalus Way.
