CCTV footage captured a motorist speeding just moments before causing a collision that left a man seriously injured in East Dorset.

At around 9.20pm on Monday 5 August 2024, Dorset Police were called to a two-vehicle crash on Wimborne Road East, near The Pure Drop pub in Ferndown.

The incident involved a black Audi A1, driven by 21-year-old Callum Giddins, who had earlier failed to stop for police near the Canford Bottom roundabout. He made off towards Stapehill, where he collided with a blue Vauxhall Zafira.

Both Giddins and the Zafira’s 58-year-old driver were taken to hospital with serious injuries. An 18-year-old front seat passenger in the Audi also sustained minor injuries.

Investigations at the scene revealed that Giddins was driving without insurance and with a revoked licence at the time of the crash. He was also found in possession of cannabis and tested positive for benzoylecgonine – a cocaine metabolite.

Giddins, of Wimborne Minster, was arrested and later charged with multiple offences, including:

Causing serious injury by dangerous driving

Driving without insurance

Failing to stop for police

Driving after licence revocation

Driving over the drug limit

Possession of a class B drug

He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 11 July 2025. He has also been disqualified from driving for five years and five months.

Police Constable Tracey Street, from Dorset’s Serious Collision Investigation Team, said:

“Giddins’ dangerous driving showed utter contempt for both the law and the victims who sustained serious injuries due his reckless actions.

“We were able to quickly identify Giddins as the driver responsible for this collision and compile evidence to put before the court to ensure he was held accountable for his dangerous actions.”
