Portsmouth tribute to Queen's links to Royal Navy
The Duke of Edinburgh's naval uniform is on display for the first time
A special exhibition looking at the Queen's close links to the Royal Navy has opened in Portsmouth.
The display at the National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard has been created as part of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
A naval uniform and admiral's cap worn by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, is on show.
As the daughter and granddaughter of monarchs who served as young men in the Royal Navy, the Queen was born into a family steeped in service with the Royal Navy.
She married Prince Philip, a serving naval officer and has spoken affectionately and publicly of her time spent as a naval wife in Malta during 1949- 1951.
Newly-donated to the museum are 41 shell cases from the gun salute fired to commemorate the death of The Duke of Edinburgh in 2021.
