Five people arrested in connection with serious assault in Portsmouth

Hampshire Police have arrested five people in connection with the serious assault of a man in Portsmouth.
Officers were first alerted to an incident taking place outside the Best One on Fratton Road in the city at 2:40am on Friday morning (August 16th).
The force were called to the shop after the victim, a 22-year-old man, asked staff for emergency help after being serious assaulted.
The man was eventually seen by medical professionals, before being taken to hospital for his injuries. He has since been discharged.
Investigations have been opened into the incident, with detectives now looking to piece together the events that led to his assault.
Following lines of enquiry, a property on Wimpole Street was searched, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Officers initially arrested two men - aged 37 and 56 - as well as two women aged 35 and 37 - in connection with the incidents.
The four people, who are all from Southsea were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and detained for police questioning.
On Sunday (August 18th), police confirmed that the 37-year-old man had been released on conditional bail until November 15th.
Similarly, the remaining suspects were released on conditional bail, until November 16th, as the force's investigations continue.
A fifth person was later arrested following development in the investigation; police confirmed that a 40-year-old woman was questioned on suspicion of attempted murder and has since been bailed.
