Man seriously hurt in Southampton hammer attack
It happened outside a hospital in the city on Thursday (June 24th)
A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a reported hammer attack in Southampton.
The victim, in his 40s, is alleged to have been hit over the head with the weapon outside the Royal South Hants Hospital.
Police were called to the scene in Raven Road at just before 2.40pm on Thursday (June 24th)
The man was initially taken inside the hospital for treatment before being taken to Southampton General Hospital.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 48-year-old man from Waterlooville has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remained in custody as of Saturday morning (June 26th).
A spokesperson for NHS Property Services, which runs the Royal South Hants Hospital, said:
“On Thursday afternoon, a number of colleagues witnessed an incident on Ravens Road.
"It was immediately reported to police who promptly attended the scene along with the ambulance service.
"A male was taken to the Urgent Care Unit in Royal South Hants Hospital for treatment.
"We are thankful for the swift action taken by hospital staff and will continue to assist police in their ongoing investigation.”
