Drivers stuck in queues after M27 closure because of "serious incident"

Police are investigating the "exact circumstances" of a serious incident which closed the M27 eastbound causing severe delays.

Drivers have faced long queues after the carriageway was shut between junctions 11 and 12 at Fareham and Portsmouth at around 2.20am on Wednesday.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Closures were put in place whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

"Enquiries remain ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.

"The carriageway has since been reopened."
