Man charged in connection with assault in Sturminster Newton

A 20-year-old man is due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court next month.

Police have charged a man in connection with a reported serious assault in Sturminster Newton.

Officers received a report at 4.54pm last Tuesday that a man had reportedly been assaulted and suffered suspected stab wounds at an address in Stourcastle.

It was also reported that a woman had also been assaulted at the address, but she had not been seriously injured.

Emergency services attended the incident and the male victim was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Following enquiries, officers arrested an 18-year-old man from Sturminster Newton and a 20-year-old man from Weymouth on suspicion of attempted murder. They also arrested a 53-year-old woman from Sturminster Newton on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

The 20-year-old man has subsequently been charged with attempted murder and assault by beating.

He was due to appear at Poole Magistrates' Court last Saturday and is next due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 6th of November.

The 18-year-old man and 53-year-old woman have both been released on police bail as Police continue their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Darren Stanton, of Dorset County CID, said: “Following detailed enquiries, we have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service, which has authorised charges against an individual in this case.

“This matter will be subject to active court proceedings and it is vital that the justice process is allowed to follow its course. We would therefore urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary relating to this case, particularly online and on social media.”
