Four in hospital following Gosport flat fire

Four people have been taken to hospital for burns and smoke inhalation following a fire at a block of flats in Gosport.

Crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue were called to the building in Somerset Court in Hardway at 12.33am on Wednesday (May 10th).

At its height, ten fire pumps were called to battle the flames, which had burnt through the building's stairwell and into the roof.

Crews from Cosham, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Portchester and Southsea were sent out with an aerial ladder platform among the items used.

Four dogs and three cats were also rescued from the blaze.

The Fire Investigation team and British Red Cross also remained at the scene as of 8am on Wednesday morning.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said:

"Relief crews remain on the scene this morning.

"The road leading up to Somerset Court, Heritage Way will be closed whilst the incident remains ongoing, so please avoid the area if possible."
