A cyber attack's hit University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust - with information stolen.

It's the latest incident to affect the health service - but it's NOT thought to include patient data.

The Southampton Trust, along with University College London have been targeted.

Former US government adviser Cody Barrow's suggested hackers have taken advantage of loopholes within software systems to get to some staff details like phone numbers.

But he warns it could mean some patient records are vulnerable too.

An NHS England spokesperson said: “We are currently investigating this potential incident with cyber security partners, including the National Cyber Security Centre, and the trusts mentioned.

“NHS England provides 24/7 cyber monitoring and incident response across the NHS, and we have a high severity alert system that enables trusts to prioritise the most critical vulnerabilities and remediate them as soon as possible.”

University Hospital Southampton declined to comment directly.
