Abandoned puppies "happy and healthy" after countryside rescue
The Labrador puppies were discovered by a group of cyclists on the South Downs
A litter of eight puppies abandoned on a countryside path near Winchester are said to be recovering well and in "great shape".
Cyclists discovered seven Labradors near Cheesefoot Head last Wednesday and an eighth one was found at the weekend.
The dogs are being cared for at kennels before being found new homes.
A spokesperson from Winchester City Council said: "We are not aware of where the puppies found on South Downs Way came from, how they got there and we've found no microchips.
"The original seven puppies have been joined by an eighth on 16 October after being found in Alresford.
"All puppies are happy, healthy and eating well.
"They are currently under council care as stray dogs and if unclaimed by an owner after seven days, they will be taken into care by a local dog rescue charity on Thursday 21 October."
