81-year-old woman killed in lorry collision on Isle of Wight

Police have arrested a driver following the crash in Newport

Police are appealing after an 81-year-old woman was killed in a collision with a lorry in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

The crash happened on the High Street, close to the junction with St James Street, at around 3pm on Monday (January 16th).

Police said the woman, who was from Totland, died at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A 24-year-old man from Bembridge was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released under investigation.

Hampshire Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and would particularly like to speak to anyone with relevant dash cam, doorbell or CCTV footage.
