Number of fires in Shropshire doubled since this time three years ago
Shropshire Fire and Rescue say they have dealt with 400 at this time of year

Fire crews in Shropshire told us the number of fires they have dealt with has doubled since this time in 2022.
They have put it down to drier weather and not as many people travelling abroad in school holidays.
"We are pleading with people to be mindful"
Marc Millward is Head of Service Delivery for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service: "We are well aware that we are getting more extreme weather events.
"I think there is a change in behaviour as well. People are staying home and using their local facilities rather than going abroad in the school holidays.
"We are pleading with people to be mindful. They need to consider their impact on the environment when they are enjoying what the local area has to offer," he said.
How can I have an open fire safely?
Over the bank holiday weekend, Shropshire Fire and Rescue told us they want people to have fun safely:
"In some of our rural spaces, the use of disposable barbecues or open fires are prohibited. The rules are in place for a reason so please stick to them.
"Disposable barbecues transfer heat easily, If they are placed directly on dry grass or dry wooded areas, then there is an increased risk of a fire.
"Some of the issues we have is when people with good intentions, all of a sudden find that a fire gets out of control. So please check for local restrictions" said Marc Millward.
"What can seem like a small fire can quickly get out of control"
Marc told us this advice: "What I do not want is people trying to put the fires out and putting themselves at risk. We have people that are trained to deal with this.
"What can seem like a small fire can quickly get out of control, especially in these open spaces.
"Call 999 and ask for the fire service. We will come out and deal with it," he said.
