Councils in the West Midlands are set to get extra funding to help fill thousands of potholes and resurface roads.

The funding got approved at the West Midlands Combined Authority Board meeting last Friday (9th May).

It now requires final sign off from the Department for Transport.

How will the funding fix potholes in the West Midlands?

£12 million in funding will be shared across councils in Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Walsall.

According to the West Midlands Combined Authority, the funding is enough to fill 132,000 potholes.

The funding will also go towards trialling new materials which should extend the lifespan of the highway network by protecting the road from potholes and cracks.

"Too many of our roads are blighted with deep potholes"

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “I know that too many of our roads are blighted with deep potholes, huge cracks and craters –

"leaving motorists struggling with dangerous driving conditions and large repair bills.

“That’s why I decided to reallocate this money to road maintenance budgets.

"I know our councils will be able to get to work quickly to bring more roads up to scratch and improve journeys for every road user," he said.
