Officers investigating arson at Shropshire Church

Police say they are investigating an arson in Market Drayton.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a church was targeted yesterday morning (Sunday 8th June).

The fire was reported around 8.10am at St Mary's Church on Church Street in the town.

Police were called out along with colleagues from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Force say it was clear a door had deliberately been set on fire.

No arrests have been made.

West Mercia Police:

"Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area in the hours before the time it was reported, and may have seen suspicious activity to get in touch with police.

"Anyone with information can email PC Esther Baskyfield on [email protected] quoting incident number 68i of June 9, 2025".
