Man jailed for rape in Wolverhampton
A young girl was seriously sexually assaulted
A man has been jailed for over 12 years after being convicted of raping a young girl in Wolverhampton.
Dane Bartholomew was brought to justice after his young victim bravely told members of her family what he had done to her - wo then contacted authorities.
Bartholomew changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial following images of some offences being found on his phone and the victim's plea being presented.
Bartholomew, who is originally from Sussex, was convicted of two counts of rape and one of sexual assault on a girl under 13. He was jailed for 12 years and four months, on June 17 at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
A sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) was also imposed for 20 years and Bartholomew will remain on the Sex Offender Register for life.
DC James Cox, from our Child Protection Unit, said: "Throughout this process his young victim has been remarkable and truly resilient.
"This young girl had the courage to speak up to her family about what was happening and they knew that they had to come to us with that information.
"Our teams were able to help and support her and her family through the court process and it has resulted in Bartholomew now being locked up for a considerable time."
