Wolverhampton mum dedicating her life to saving others after daughter's death
Emma Carrington's daughter Lauren Smith died of a heart attack at 29
A Wolverhampton mum told us she is dedicating her life to saving others after she lost her daughter young to a heart attack.
Emma Carrington wants to install as many defibrillators as she can across the city.
Lauren's story:
Emma Carrington found her daughter, Lauren Smith, collapsed on her bathroom floor in January 2023.
She administered CPR but unfortunately it was too late for Lauren.
"I lost my best friend, I lost my daughter, my granddaughter lost her mummy.
"I am determined to help save other people's lives, so that they do not have to go through what we have to go through every day.
"CPR can save lives, defibrillators can save lives," she said.
How many defibrillators has Emma installed in Wolverhampton?
Emma has installed 5 defibrillators across Wolverhampton since she started campaigning mid-January 2025.
The latest have been installed at : Cranmer Adult Day care centre, Sunflowers Nursery and Phoenix Cutting Services in Willenhall.
Each defibrillator installed holds a photo of Lauren Smith with a message that reads: "Heaven gained the most beautiful angel Lauren Smith.
"You are the sunshine, rainbows, moon and stars. Sending kisses to the sky mommy, have you caught them yet?
"Not all heroes wear capes. Lovingly donated by family, friends, and the public. Keep shining bright, our Prinny," it reads.
Emma told us why she wanted to spend the money raised on defibrillators costing around £2,000 each:
"They might not save a life but it gives that person a chance. If you call 999 and get to a defibrillator, you can try your best to save someone before an ambulance can get to them.
"Lauren would have died a hero," she said.
