A knitted tribute has appeared in a Shropshire town in honour of the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

The creation has been placed on top of a post box in Bridgnorth High Street.

It features a range of battle scenes from the Normandy landings, with soldiers making their way onto beaches in northern France.

It's not yet clear who created the knitted post box topper, but it is gaining attention from shoppers and locals.

In a post on Facebook, Bridgnorth Town Council said: "This month there is a very special additional topper to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-day on the post box outside Tesco.

"Amazing work from our Bridgnorth mystery group."

Commemorations will be paid in Bridgnorth on Thursday (6 June), the anniversary of D-Day.

The D-Day beacon on Panpudding Hill will be lit at 9.15pm. The Castle Grounds and Severn Valley Railway will be open from 7.30pm until 10pm.
