Oxford MINI plant is supporting a local hospice who provide end of life care to people across the county with a €10,000 donation.

The money is part of BMW Group’s Karl-Monz-Foundation which aims to support public health and welfare across the world.

"To spread a little bit of joy like that is really wonderful"

Ten thousand euro roughly equates to more than £8,300 in the exchange rate.

Amelia Foster, CEO, Sobell House Hospice, said: “We are extremely grateful for this donation and particularly thankful to Markus and Plant Oxford for the role they have played in securing it for services in our region. By championing our cause they are helping us to continue to provide our palliative care services to residents and their families which we couldn’t do without charitable donations like this one.”

Last year, the hospice raised around £100,000 to redevelop the family room and the MINI plant has also donated a small toy car for children to play with in the room.

Ms Foster said: “It's a difficult time - often when someone's in the Hospice, you know, the adults that they're with are probably sad finding things difficult. So, to be able to spread a little bit of joy like that is really wonderful.

BMW Group is one of Oxford’s largest employers and the MINI manufacturing plant are ongoing supporters of the hospice and were a key partner for OxTrail, which took over the city last summer.

MINI Plant Oxford designed an Ox called, MINI Ox, which raised £2,800 at auction. It was also the OxTrail paint shop partner and took on the huge task of spraying all the oxen once painted using the plant’s facilities.

Dr. Markus Grüneisl, Managing Director of Plant Oxford and his team helped secure the donation, he said: “We’re proud to support the important work of Sobell House Hospice in providing end-of-life care to the people of Oxford.

“I’m delighted to be able to hand over this cheque on behalf of the Karl-Monz-Foundation. BMW Group is committed to giving back to the local community and supporting charitable organisations that make a real difference in people's lives.”
