Medieval jousting returns to Stonor Park in Oxfordshire
Over the May bank holiday weekend, an Oxfordshire estate will play host to a thrilling annual jousting event
Taking place on Sunday 5th May and Monday 6th May, Stonor Park, near Henley-on-Thames, is hosting the Knights of Royal England who will be performing brave, dramatic and entertaining displays at the attraction’s magical adventure playground, Tumblestone Hollow.
Tumblestone Hollow’s Medieval Jousting event will include interactive displays and meet and greets with the knights, who will be entering the playground to recruit the loudest supporters for the blue and red teams.
Lord Camoys, custodian of Stonor Park, said: “The Medieval Jousting weekend is one of the most anticipated events in our calendar and is extremely popular with families and history enthusiasts alike.
“By hosting the jousting arena at Tumblestone Hollow this year, the jousters are bringing the bravery and excitement of medieval times even closer to families of all ages.
“In the arena, the Knights of Royal England will showcase their very best skills and display their talented horsemanship with real jousting tournaments that take our breath away every year.”
Testing their bravery and skill, the knights joust at full speed on their Andalusian steed horses to overpower their opponents, whilst trying to unseat them from their horses.
Watching the tournaments from the hay-bales at 12:30pm and 2:30pm on each day, visitors cheer for their favourite knight and heckle the loser.
Speaking about the event Lord Camoys said “Every event we host at Stonor is either connected to our history or stems from our family’s passions.
"The jousting weekend is one of the wonderful ways we honour a piece of the Stonor family history, as my ancestor commanded the left flank during the Battle of Agincourt in 1415.”
