A 14 year old boy and a man have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run in Oxford.

The crash on the Banbury Road yesterday left a 17 year old boy in a critical condition at hospital.

He was riding his bicycle between the junctions of Beechcroft Road and Oakthorpe Road during the busy morning rush-hour, when he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle.

He suffered serious injuries, but the motorbike rider left the scene without stopping.

Two people - both from Oxford - including a 14-year-old - are now being questioned by police, who are appealing for information.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Tony Jenkins of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This collision has occurred on a busy stretch of the Banbury Road in the morning rush-hour and resulted in the road being closed for much of the day on Monday. It has now re-opened.

“Sadly, a boy has sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.

“I am appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that has captured the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police."
