Corby man jailed after attacking neighbour with a knife
The victim suffered life-changing injuries.
A 45-year-old man from Corby has been sent to prison for more than 10 years after attacking his neighbour with a knife.
On the afternoon of July 4, 2024, police received a 999 call from a man who had found his friend outside his flat in Llewellyn Walk, Corby, covered in blood.
Officers found the victim – a man in his 30s - with a serious slash wound to his face.
The man was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries and his neighbour - Michael Sergio Smith, previously of Llewellyn Walk, Corby, was arrested.
A dispute over bins was suspected to have been the catalyst for the attack.
Smith was subsequently charged with Section 18 - wounding with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
After pleading guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court on October 24, 2024, Smith returned to the same court last month (April 28), where he was sentenced to 10 years and four months in prison.
Lead investigator - Detective Constable Sam Bennett, said: “This was an extremely violent attack which has left the victim with permanent scars and whilst no sentence will make up for what happened, I am pleased that Michael Smith has been handed this significant sentence.
“Using a knife to settle a dispute should never be an option and I hope this result sends a clear message to anyone who carries one.
“Finally, I would like to thank the victim in this case, and his family, for their support during our investigation. I hope this conclusion and the lengthy sentence provides them with some comfort as they continue their road to recovery.”
