We are set to see celebrations in pubs and bars along the Yorkshire coast this evening as the final of the Women's Euros gets underway.

Beth Mead who is from Hinderwell near Whitby is no doubt helping to boost the excitement.

Gail Colling who is part of Scarborough Athletic's women and girls development initiative worked on a youth football development programme which tutored Beth when she was young.

She said: "It's been special to see her as she's grown and obviously now on the stage and the platform she's at, she's truly inspirational to all the young girls around the region.

"With the programme at Scarborough Athletic, we've just widened the horizons to allow young girls to be creative and to enjoy the game. It's a club for everyone. Everyone can play there and they're really hooking on the back of the Women's Euros to promote the game in such a positive way.

"People like Beth who have made an impact at a young age and followed her dreams and ambitions, it does inspire those young girls. You can see some of them actually go and play football at a high level and watching Beth, there's only that that can inspire them and it will encourage more girls to be involved in the game.

"The whole thing around Beth is that she was from a very small village on the other side of Whitby and this young girl can do it. This is evidence that you don't have to be in the mix of a hub of a big city. You just need that dream, ambition and desire."
