Yorkshire Coast visitors reminded to be safe and careful
Visitors to the Yorkshire Coast are being reminded to be safe when coming to the seaside.
Visitors to the Yorkshire Coast are being reminded to be safe when coming to the seaside.
It is as more people are expected to flock to beaches, towns and villages due to the hot weather.
The message comes from North Yorkshire County Council.
Richard Webb, Corporate Director of Health and Adult Services there, said:
"We're all enjoying this fantastic weather, we've had such a miserable sort of couple of months or so in terms of rain and it's really good to see the sun; and naturally when this happens we all want to go to the seaside and we want to go to some of the other great places to visit across North Yorkshire. I think it is just about being thoughtful and being kind to yourself, thinking about how you protect yourself, your family and your friends.
"Our seaside resorts, our coast, is also somewhere where people live so actually if you're visiting somewhere like Staithes, Whitby or Scarborough, lots of people live in these towns and actually whilst they welcome visitors there is a balance there, it's a kind of yin and yang thing. We need to make sure that we allow places to breathe and we keep everyone safe.
"Please just be careful. Keep to the social distancing rules and wear your face masks if you're going indoors. It's really tough sometimes for people who work in cafes, bars and restaurants if they're having to sort of police people sort of following the rules, so if you can do that you're really helping them. In order to keep safe as well, remember your sunscreen because you don't want Covid and you don't want really bad sunburn so look after yourself."
