It is asking residents to do activities like walking, running, or doing whatever they like throughout this month as long as it is the length of a mile.
The charity says they rely on money donated from the public as they do not receive funding from the Government.
Michael Charlton, the RNLI's Marketing and Visitor Experience Lead for the North and East, said:
"The lifeboat station in Scarborough, last year they launched 29 times, 13 of them in the dark and they saved the life and aided 28 people so the stations in Yorkshire are really busy. People love the coastline and Yorkshire and we are expecting this year to be even busier, and it's potentially going to be for the RNLI our busiest summer ever.
"We're asking the folks of Yorkshire to really sort of help us to raise funds to train the crew, to help our crew members and they've all come from the local area like Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey. Those lifeboat stations rely on the people who live in those towns to man those lifeboats, so it's really important.
"We always find people do some really amazing and wonderful things for the RNLI and how it can be really creative in what they do. You can do what you want; people at the moment are signing up to do anything from running the mile, swimming the mile, dancing the mile and somebody's actually going to do it on a space hopper in a park. So they're going to hop around the park on a space hopper and cover a mile.
"Have fun. Take part. It's really simple to join in. You can sign up; do it as a family, do it on your own, just take part, have fun and raise funds. We're a charity and we rely on the people of Yorkshire to help us, they've always been amazing over the years supporting the RNLI and I'm sure they'll carry on through the month of May and help us to save more lives on the Yorkshire Coast."
