Women's Institute in Hinderwell: 'The Queen left us a lifetime legacy'
President of the organisation near Whitby says Her Majesty was a leader
The President of the Women's Institute in Hinderwell near Whitby says the Queen left us a lifetime legacy.
Christine Prudom has been talking about Her Majesty being a leader as the nation continues to mourn her death.
Christine said: "She was WI lady and a member of Sandringham WI for 80 years, which is a very long time. For the Queen she was an inspiring lady, she was selfless, calm, she would set anyone at ease, she would never have anyone feeling uncomfortable and it was important to her.
"She knew what she was doing and I thought that was wonderful. She was very loyal, courageous and she was a natural leader. She did, at the age of 21, promise to give a life of service to this country and she has done just that and more.
"She had tremendous diplomacy and it didn't matter where she was. She always managed to work a very difficult situation and she knew how to do it. I'm honoured to have been one of her subjects throughout this reign. I think we've been very, very lucky to have had her. She's left us a lifetime legacy.
"We've lost a very important member from our WI family. We are a family within the WI but it's up to us to bear in mind all that she's left us, the legacy that she's left us, of all the good that she's done throughout her reign and it's important that we pass that knowledge on to future generations."
