A university student from Whitby says she is thinking a lot more about money compared to previous years.

21-year-old Charlotte Brown goes to the University of Sheffield and she is in her third year studying Genetics.

She said: "Definitely from just bills in general they've got up a lot and my student loan hasn't covered my accommodation for any of the years I've been at university. It's meant I've had to ask my parents for money and I've worked myself as well to get money whilst at university.

"I've found that I've had to do more shifts during term time to be able to afford to go on the nights out, pay bills, food shopping and meals etc, whereas in first year I wasn't really too worried about that but now I'm definitely thinking more about money.

"There are also worries about when I actually finish university to save up for a house deposit in the next few years, a new car and stuff like that when I'm not a student anymore. Trying to save and put money away is so much harder because literally everything I earn is either going on bills, food shopping and going out.

"One big thing for not going back home as much is the cost of petrol because I filled up my car the other week and it was over £50, normally it's £30 maximum. Also, going back to Whitby there's no trains into Whitby so you have to drive or get someone to pick you up and it's just so expensive the petrol at the minute."
